A proposal on behalf of the IUGS Subcommission on the Systematics of Metamorphic Rocks

چکیده
This work presents the provisional results of the IUGS Subcommission on the Systematics of Metamorphic Rocks in respect to impactites. It is proposed to distinguish between impactites resulting from a single impact (e.g., at terrestrial impact craters) and those resulting from multiple impacts (e.g., lunar rocks or meteorites). The former are subdivided into two major groups: Proximal and distal impactites. Proximal impactites are: (1) Shocked rocks, (2) Impact melt rocks, and (3) Impact breccias. Distal impactites comprise (1) Tektites, Microtektites, and (2) Air fall beds. Impactites formed by multiple impacts fall into two groups: (1) Impact regolith and (2) Shock-lithified impact regolith.

A Study Group, under the leadership of D. Stöffler (Berlin) has formulated this proposal for the classification and nomenclature of impactites. The following scientists have participated actively in the Study Group: W. von Engelhardt (Tübingen), V. I. Feldman (Moscow), F. Hörz (Houston), K. Keil (Honolulu), and R. A. F. Grieve (Ottawa). Contributions were also made by B. M. French (Washington) ...
متن کاملProposal for a Unified Classification System of Shock Metamorphosed Planetary Silicate Rocks – Call for Comments
Introduction: Shocked rocks are known from various planetary bodies of the solar system including Earth, Moon, Mars, and several types of asteroids. It was first recognized on Earth that stages of progressive shock metamorphism can be defined [1,2,3,4] and this concept was later on confirmed for lunar rocks [5] and meteorites [6,7,8]. Initiated by the IUGS “Subcommission on the Classification o...
متن کاملCarbon and Oxygen Isotopic Systematics in Calcite and Dolomite from the Sangan Iron Skarn Deposit, Northeastern Iran
A total of 40 samples from carbonates and 8 samples from silicate rocks were analyzed from the Sangan iron skarn deposit to examine behavior of the oxygen and carbon isotopes. The higher values of ?18O are from metamorphic calcite and dolomite and lower ones are from granitic rocks. Although the ?18O and ?13C values of calcite and dolomite in marble yield the highest values in the Sangan deposi...
متن کاملDating of Precambrian Metasedimentary Rocks and Timing of their Metamorphism in the Soursat Metamorphic Complex (NW IRAN): Using LA–ICP-MS, U–Pb Dating of Zircon and Monazite
Soursat Metamorphic Complex (SMC) in west of Takab city is one of the polyphase metamorphic terrenes in northern Sanandaj-Sirjan metamorphic belt of Iran. The SMC composed mainly of metasedimentary rocks associated with granitic intrusions. Based on metamorphic rocks, two metamorphic phases could be separate in the complex. M1 is representative of regional metamorphisms which varies from greens...

Hard rock aquifers for the purpose of this Paper mean the non-carbonate, fractured rock aquifers in the terrain covered by crystalline basement complex, metamorphic rocks and also by extensive effusive volcanic rocks like the basalts of western India (Deccan traps. Ground water development in hard rock aquifer areas has always played a secondary role compared to that in the areas having high-yi...
